Connect your phone to iTunes to restore

What a great way to start the Easter holiday.  On Sunday I was following the Arsenal vs. Liverpool  football match on my iPhone 4 with TV2 Sporten‘s iPhone app, when suddenly I got a message on  the phone that there is no network connection or cellular service. WTF???

After booting the phone it started fine, I unlocked the phone with the SIM pin and another message popped up saying that the phone was unable to receive phone calls or use network connections and that i need to restore it through iTunes. I tried to boot it once more but this time it just started with the “connect to iTunes screen”.  Doing so I first get a message saying that the phone is locked with a passcode and that I need to enter the pass code to unlock the phone. Without possibility to do that the only option I am left with is to boot the phone into recovery mode and restore the whole phone.

After spending a couple of minutes recovering the phone firmware (ios) i reconnect it to iTunes but this time it tells med there’s no SIM card in the phone. GODDAMNIT!

Spending so much time to find out that there’s a hardware error on the phone?? I am starting to miss the old days of simple phones! I’m really starting to hate the way Apple forces you to own a computer (preferably a Mac computer) for anything you buy from them. Everything needs to be updated or activated through iTunes. Why? Why do you want to force me to own a computer when I only want an iPad? or iPhone?

Now I have to live with an old Samsung Omnia II phone running Windows Mobile 6.5 until I have the chance to get it fixed, and wait 2-3 weeks before they give me a “new” phone. I already miss FourSquare, Gowalla, Instagram and all the other apps I use daily and going from an iPhone 4 to a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone is more or less like stepping through a downward spiral in time to where the phones was as sloooow as hell and you couldn’t do much more than use it for SMS and phone calls..

As the final insult, when I got home I found out that Arsenal and Liverpool had played for a draw, 1-1 saved by a totally unjust penalty kick for Liverpool.

Bummer night!
