EDIT: a step closer now: http://agilemobility.net/2009/10/15/getting-the-developer-community-up-and-running/
Norwegian? Want to help create a developer community? I need your help!
What I miss is having a developer community like i had when i did regular .net work. I miss seeing technology relevant sessions on MSDN Live or NDC and i want to do something about it. Maybe even a MSDN Mobile event?
Who am I?
A bit about myself, I’m almost 40 and have been working with .net since 2001, mostly asp.net solutions. My first solution ever created for a mobile device was not done with netcf or .net at all, it was a web based solution for monitoring and maintaining your hosting environment from a web interface on a Hewlett-Packard iPAQ H5455 device running Microsoft PocketPC Premium. The mobile web interface supported pocket IE and what then was called Opera SSR, later Opera Mini. I had been using this tool as an internal management application until December 2003 when i released it for the general public. The application got a really great Windows NT Magazine review in February 2004 that even got an investment banker in Chicago interested. After that i did some internal business applications based on netcf, not really doing any “real” work until i started working at ErgoGroup in April 2008, at their newly started mobility solution department.
Today I am CTO and senior architect and we are mainly working on major industrial windows mobile solutions. ErgoGroup as a company has been doing this since 2005 and has a lot of really good people around and we are willing to share our knowledge as well as being eager to learn from others about their experiences.
What I want!
For the last year I’ve been looking around. Looking for a developer community for Windows Mobile and compact framework in Norway.
I want my developer community! I feel we need a developer community! If we are to show the Objective C developers that we can do better and cooler stuff than them, we should share experience amongst ourselves. We should get together and talk about netcf unit testing, architecture, design guidelines, netcf features wanted or needed, Sync Framework for Windows Mobile. We should show our peers what we can do and teach those who haven’t learned it yet.
How about inviting someone from the Windows Mobile or netcf platform team to talk about Smart Client Architecture and Design Guide? or any other interesting topic.
Who’s in?
If you develop either professionally or “just for the fun of it” and you, like me are interested in having a netcf/WinMo specific community or user group please let me know either by email (XadhoomGrglblstr AT gmail.com) or on Twitter
